Jane's First Year

It's hard to believe it's already been a year since our girl made her entrance to the world! It's been a wonderful year.

Here are some stats of Jane's first year.

A few minutes old

Weight
Born: 8.0 lbs
1 Year Old: 18 1/2 lbs

One Year Old!

I absolutely love to watch her grow and learn. Having a child has helped open my eyes to how God views me. It has allowed me to get a glimpse of how much He loves me and I have grown in my love for Him because of it. He is so good.

So little!

Height
Born: 21"
1 Year Old: 28 1/4"

She's so big now!

Her head size has stayed in the 70-90th percentile.

She has 3 (almost 4!) teeth

3 Teeth

Firsts!

Jane's first word was Momma/Mom. Not exactly sure when the first time she realized she was referring to me though. I'm guessing around 7 months or so. She can also say Dad/Dadda, Hi, Bye Bye, No, Pappaw and Wow. She talks all the time and has her own language.

Smile - 3 weeks

Laugh - 3 months

Rolled over - 3 months

Sitting unassisted - 5 months

Clap - 6 months

Pulled up - 6 months

Tooth - 8 months

Crawled - 8 months

Throw - 10 months

Walked - 11 months

Slept through the night in her own crib - 11 months (hallelujah!)

Jane loves exploring outside, books, other babies/kids, people in general, saying/waving Hi, smiling, music, dancing, walking while holding on to my fingers, clapping, climbing, chasing roly polies, rain and anything shiny, pretty or new. Basically, she likes almost everything except sleeping. ;)

Her favorite foods are strawberries, cheese and cereal puffs.

Her favorite books are 5 Little Ladybugs, Mr. Brown Can Moo and Old McDonald Had A Farm.

Her favorite toys are her alphabet blocks, her toy house and her ball rattles.

Funny faces!

I can already tell a good bit of Jane's personality! She is strong willed and tough like her Father, silly like her Mother, adventurous like her Uncle Scott and Aunt Anna, talkative like her Uncle Joseph, giving like her Uncle Travis and Aunt Cerena, joyful like her Marmee, smart like her Pappaw, loving like her Kokoo and friendly like her Akuya.

All of it together makes her uniquely Jane Elizabeth Daniels. So blessed to have her in our lives.

Happy Birthday girlie! We love you so much.

Matthew 7:7-11
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

The Riedels come to visit!

A couple weeks ago, our good friends the Riedels came to see us! I was particularly excited about their visit because it would be the first time I would get to meet their daughter Rose. Jane and Rose are about 4 1/2 months apart.

Rose and Jane still cooking

Since both Kae and I had both had babies within the last year, plus the fact that we live about 3 hours apart, it had been tough for us to get together. (Still figuring out this traveling with kids thing) Needless to say, I was elated when we finally worked out a date for them to come visit. Can I take a moment to say how absolutely adorable Rose is? I mean look at that face!

Love her!

As Kae and I chatted and watched our babies play, I started to realize that Rose is pretty much the opposite of Jane. It makes me laugh how different they are. I love how babies show us they are just little people with likes and dislikes and defined personalities.

Meeting for the first time

Just a few examples of their differences. Jane hated to be on her stomach, so she learned to sit up unassisted around 5 months, but didn't learn to crawl until almost 9 months. Rose is very content on her stomach and is not very interested in sitting up on her own, as a result she is already crawling around at 7 months. Rose will focus on a toy for quite a while on her own. Jane on the other hand won't play with a toy for very long at all if someone isn't right there playing with her. I hope they can be friends despite their differences. :)

You have a mouth just like me!

Jane was a little overzealous! She couldn't contain herself. Jane thought Rose was awesome! Rose watched Jane, but was more interested in Jane's toys. Haha! Again, differences.

Hangin out

Jane is not used to playing with other babies, so to show her love she kept trying to sit on Rose or roll over on her. Which is how she plays with me and Sam.

Awww!

Hey, I actually managed to get everybody in the photo above!

Jane trying to sit on Rose's lap

Rose thought Jane was interesting, but would rather Jane keep her distance. Jane's like but I just love you!

We can both play with this toy!

They found a couple things they had in common! They both love the walker and the strings on Kae's shirt.

These strings are the coolest. I think so too!

No matter where Rose was, Jane wanted to be right there too. Only when I put Jane down for a nap did I actually get to hold Rose without Jane trying play with Rose or sit on her.

Rose enjoying Jane's Pokey

Kae and I took a walk around the neighborhood with our girls. It was lovely. I meant to get a picture of us, but forgot. The guys had gotten back with lunch when we returned from our walk, so my mind was on food!

Little friends!

I throughly enjoyed getting to swap baby stories with Kae the whole day. It's amazing how much of your conversation is composed of babies once you have one of your own.

I think the one thing that seems to plague all mothers is the battle with sleep. I think we all need to put less pressure on ourselves and not freak out if our kid doesn't sleep like someone else's kid. Just keep trying! Don't get discouraged. Don't be afraid to try something new if it's just not working.

Tried to fit us all in. :)

It was a wonderful visit! Hope it will be the first of many playdates for our girls.

Psalm 4:8
I will both lie down peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Proverbs 27:9
Ointment and perfume delight the heart,
And the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel.

Short and Sweet

I haven't had time to blog lately. Jane has a couple of teeth coming in. So not much sleep is going on. Here's a couple pictures for ya!

Crinkle nose!

Bah! I love her smile so much!

Jane loves the pool!

The pool is going to be so much fun this year!

That's all the time I have for now. Gotta get some sleep while girlie is sleeping! .... I was just about to post this and Jane woke up. Now you see why I haven't had time blog! :)
